As summer begins, we reflect on the experiences that have shaped us. This month, we shine the light on resilience, awareness and action. Celebrated annually on 1 December, World AIDS Day reminds us to support those affected by HIV/AIDS and to renew our commitment to education, prevention and compassion. We also observe Skin Cancer Awareness Month, which urges us to take precautions under the African sun. With high UV exposure, early detection and simple practices, such as using sunscreen and seeking shade, can save lives.
